Yellow Gold Goes Bold This Season!

The summer winds are still blowing jewelry lovers, and The JI has the perfect accessory to compliment that hard-earned tan. Go for the gold! This week, more than 30 fine jewelry designers featured their bold gold looks at the Style LA fashion show hosted by the Kardashian sisters at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. Do those gals ever sleep? The event, now in it’s sixth year, celebrated swim and resort wear fashion in support of worthy charities, Facial Paralysis Foundation and Stop the Violence/Face the Music.

Statement earrings, stackable bangles and cuffs, and the current must-have for your jewelry box – the pendant necklace - were the featured looks on the runway as models strutted poolside wearing looks from nine different designers, including, Christian LaCroix and Monique Leshman.

“The versatility, warmth and allure of yellow gold proved a perfect fit for this wide array of fashion collections,” said Duvall O’Steen, Director of Jewelry PR for the World Gold Council. “Only gold can complement every skin tone and every color under the sun.” I couldn’t agree more.

And if you are only looking for one key accessory to bring with you on that island vacation, stick with the tried-and-true gold hoop earring. Just take it up a notch with a larger size or wider band to reflect the season’s ‘bigger is better’ trend.

So, like most Olympic hopefuls, we have gold on our mind this week. Don’t let the summer go by without adding a little glow to your poolside style!

The Pendant Necklace - A Summer Jewelry Trend for Everyone!

Diamonds, gold, tassles, shells, beads – the fashion forward are using anything and everything to adorn the long chains flowing around their necks this season. Yes, it’s true. The pendant necklace is making a comeback. But The Jewelry Insider is happy to report it’s a far cry from Flavor Flav’s signature clock and the blinged out styles of Hip Hop’s fashion past. Whew!

And there’s more good news. This look isn’t just for the LC and Miley set. We spotted a fab gold snake pendant on Michelle Yeoh at this week’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer premiere and absolutely love how actress, Mamie Gummer (daughter of Meryl), layers her look at mum's Mama Mia debut.

Hey. If you want to go big like Flav, I support you. But there are so many ways to skin this cat. Dig into your grandmother’s jewelry box for a vintage locket. Replace the standard gold chain with a ribbon or a long, leather cord. Splurge on an unforgettable diamond piece or scout for a unique gold medallion. Wear not one but two - or even three - pendants in a mix and matched look. Any way you slice it, this trend will have your signature style written all over it. And that, my dear friend, is the best part about it.

Summer won’t last forever, so get out there and show off your unique interpretation!

Carpe Diem!

Heart Pendants Feel The Love

Birds do it. Bees do it. Even educated fleas do it. Let’s do it. Let’s fall in love – over and over again. This is the time when our favorite (and not so favorite) furry and flighty friends spring into love – this season, it's time to follow their lead and wear your heart in the open.

Rihanna loves ‘love’ so much she’s spelling it out on her heart-shaped pendant. If you love ‘love’ take the four-letter word and spell it out in gold, add a sprinkling of created rubies, mother-of-pearl and diamond accents or just head for Zales where they’ve done the work for you.

Heather Graham seems to have turned love on its side, so has Macys with this falling heart sapphire pendant in white gold.

Alyssa Milano is another Hollywood beauty that holds her heart close wherever she goes. If you can’t decide whether your heart is golden, full of gems or simply dazzles, then don’t decide – just head to Sears.com and snap up this gem of a heart.

You don’t have to be Elizabeth Hurley to carry off the ‘white love’ look. This elegant pearl and diamond heart jewel from Zales is a timeless ode to love of all ages.
