A testament to Etienne's desire to custom design every piece to his consumer's exact specifications, you may choose the exact number, size and color of diamonds you desire.

While we believe that color enhanced natural diamonds are equally precious and far more versatile than natural colored diamonds, it pays to be an educated consumer! It is the moral obligation of jewelers to disclose all information about the origin of a diamond, including if it has undergone color enhancement treatments.

Colored Diamonds in the Media

Colored diamonds, while slow to reach the mainstream, are becoming increasingly popular in the media and are a must have within more fashionable circles. Numerous celebrities are opting for colored diamond engagement rings and even wedding bands instead of more traditional colorless stones. The result--breathtaking designs with stunningly colorful, yet durable center-stones!

It's a who's who list of celebrities that have chosen colored diamond engagement rings to showcase their love, not to mention their wealth!

Heidi Klum went with yellow... Jennifer Lopez chose pink:

While large natural colored diamonds are far to expensive for the average consumer, beautiful colored diamond jewelry is NOT out of your reach by any means. A small group of open-minded, talented designers have begun using color enhanced, natural diamonds in their bridal and fashion jewelry designs.

Etienne Perret has been custom designing and fabricating diamond jewelry for over thirty years and was one of the first artists to bring color enhanced, natural diamonds to the forefront of the jewelry world.

Using the color enhancement processes of irradiation or HTHP (high temperature, high pressure) on natural diamonds is a great way to ensure vibrant color in natural diamonds while maintaining a price-tag accessible the average American.

What Colors are Hip?

Did you know that there are certain trends regarding which hues of colored diamonds are most popular? Apparently, although not entirely surprisingly, the popularity of different colors of diamonds is correlated to a number of different factors such as function of the piece of colored diamond jewelry, season of the year and even the region it was purchased!

An interesting site, Diamond Maestro's Blog, has suggested that colored diamonds purchased for bridal jewelry are most commonly pink or yellow which is not surprising at all. More interestingly, fall diamond purchases are commonly in cooler champagne to cognac shades as opposed to brighter summer hues. Sales analysis even supports that metropolitan consumers favor the less common and more spectacular blues, greens and black diamonds as opposed to consumers from less urban environments!

Here at Etienne Perret Colored Diamond Jewelry we enjoy working with any and all shades of natural color and color treated natural diamonds! Our Engagement Ring Designs are available in not only yellow and pink, but with diamonds of any shade, from brilliant color treated blues and greens, to the warm earthy shades of champagne and cognac. Black diamonds are an especially popular choice in Etienne's Mens' Wedding Band designs. Another very popular Etienne design is the Rainbow Channel Band, encompassing all colors of the rainbow into one breathtaking wedding band/fashion ring!

Celebrities Choose Etienne!

As more and more celebrities desire colored diamond jewelry it is very exciting to see which designers they choose to create their one of a kind jewelry.

Etienne Perret is known as a "Jewelers' Jeweler," because many successful jewelry designers and store owners opt to go with Etienne designs when buying jewelry for themselves and their loved ones. As the saying goes, it takes a craftsman to recognize fine craftsmanship!

While experienced with making jewelry for the most demanding consumers, Etienne was still caught by surprise when he was commissioned by the basketball legend, Michael Jordan, to create a series of platinum and color treated natural diamond pendants! One pendant was to be created for each of Michael Jordan's three children, using diamonds in the color of each child's birthstone, respectively. A final, master pendant would be made for Michael himself, set with diamonds in each of the colors his children possessed!

It was a resounding success. Here's a glimpse of the Jordan pendants!

Dream In Color With Etienne Perret

Dream in Color with Etienne Perret

With over 35 years of experience creating better cut red cindythe highest quality hand-crafted jewelry, Etienne is a leading designer of colored diamond jewelry worldwide.  Etienne embraces the use of color enhanced natural diamonds as well as natural colored diamonds in order to provide diamond jewelry in all colors of the rainbow at prices more affordable to mainstream consumers.

It is Etienne's goal to spread knowledge and acceptance of color enhanced natural diamonds (from here on referred to as Colored diamonds) to the general public and jewelry connoisseurs alike. Take a little time to learn about the advantages and the science behind these incredible gems. Everyone deserves to dream in color!

Advantages of Color Enhanced Natural Diamonds

There are numerous advantages of choosing colored diamonds instead of white diamonds or other types of colored gemstones for your fine jewelry needs. Major advantages include a greater variety of available colors, better brilliance and durability, and more affordable prices.

While diamonds are naturally found in a wide variety of colors such as brown, yellow and pink, these stones are generally very dull, light shades and often prohibitively expensive. Colored diamonds are available in nearly any color, including various shades of yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, green, blue, brown and black!

It is also much easier to obtain matching colors for applications
green jane bettersuch as pave where consistency is vital. This allows for nearly endless color combinations and artistic freedom by creative designers like Etienne Perret.

While most colors can be found as one type of gemstone or another, no gemstone is as brilliant or durable as a diamond. That means your colored diamond jewelry will have a more stunning sparkle and be less prone to damage than any other gemstone of similar color. That said, another appealing application for colored diamonds is in birthstone jewelry. Discerning customers need not sacrifice on durability by using traditional semi-precious birthstones. Match traditional colors exactly with colored diamonds to ensure that your birthstone jewelry will last a lifetime!

In today's economy price is often a deciding factor. Colored diamonds are almost always less expensive than natural color diamonds and often even less expensive than white diamonds! So, if price is a factor in your choice of wedding or engagement rings, it is wise to seriously consider expressing your love in color!

Science Behind the Magic

For millennia, humans have altered natures bounty to suit our own refined tastes. In a world where wool is colored, cotton is bleached, hair is dyed and wood is stained, how can we suggest that gemstones should not be color enhanced as well?

Before one decides whether or not it is appropriate to enhance the color of nature's greatest gift, the diamond, they must be aware of industry standards for other gemstones. Did you know that almost all sapphires and rubies are heat treated to improve color, emeralds are oiled to make their color brighter, blue topaz is irradiated from colorless to light blue, and pearls are bleached to obtain a uniform white color?

What makes the color enhancement of diamonds so special is the  human ingenuity that, through decades of toil and a mastery of science, has led to today's highly refined treatments. There are three main techniques for color treating diamonds. Irradiation, high temperature combined with high pressure, and coating. The first two methods are both respected and permanent forms of diamond color enhancement. Coating is undesirable, not permanent and will not be discussed further here.

Radiation was the first method discovered to alter the color of a diamond. Today's techniques are highly refined and involve bombardment by subatomic particles  to alter atomic structure, which activates a diamonds color center. This process is safe, leaving no residual radiation and is permanent except in cases of exposure to extremely high temperatures (over 900F).

hthp NovadiamondHigh temperature/high pressure (HTHP) seems to be the most natural and elegant method of color enhancement. By recreating the extreme temperature and pressure conditions found inside the earth's core, where diamonds are created naturally, it is possible to alter a diamond's color within the laboratory. This process is completely permanent and not affected by future exposure to high temperatures.

A Brief History of Etienne Perret

Etienne Perret, the designer jeweler of Camden, Maine USA, has grown beyond the borders of his town and state, and is reaching the world over to supply some of the finest retailers with his unique vision of colored diamond, gold and platinum jewelry.

His summer retreat to Maine from the academic rigors of the University of Vermont in Burlington acquainted Etienne Perret with the picturesque coastal town of Camden Maine in 1973. The magnetic charm of this town pulled at him after he returned to Vermont. Visions of carving a life out of the rugged coastline of Maine pursued Etienne until he gave up his academic studies, and at the tender age of 19 loaded his possessions into his little truck and sought his dream. In Camden he rented a little shop and pursued his hobby of silversmithing, selling his wares to the general public and making custom pieces for those that enjoyed his fusion of art, fashion and jewelry.

Etienne Perret now holds a Bachelor of fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and a graduate gemologists degree from the Gemological institute of America. Amongst countless other awards and recognitions, he has won two Diamonds of Distinction awards, and has twice been a finalist in the prestigious Diamonds international Design Competition. His works have been featured by the Platinum Guild International for his innovative uses of Platinum in jewelry and his knowledge and exceptional use of colored diamonds has been sourced in numerous jewelry industry publications.

A combination of unique vision, marketing savvy, and a lot of hard work has allowed Etienne Perret and Company to grow internationally. His work can be viewed in fine retail stores such as I. Gorman and Hamilton Hill. The son of Swiss parents, Etienne naturally incorporates a European design sense with an American flair for fashion in all that he does.

Etienne lives in the coastal Maine town of Camden, overlooking Camden harbor with his wife, Kathani. They have three children, Allison and John Carroll from Kathani's previous marriage and Michael born in 1984.
