Jewelry fashion at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards was a lot like that bittersweet time when you realize there isn't an Easter Bunny. You're kinda disappointed - but as long as you still have some sugar in a basket - all is good.

While no one knocked my socks off this year, the sugary sparkle came in the guise of big earring looks, gumball-sized cocktail rings, layered wristwear and a few whimsical surprises to keep us all guessing.

The jewelry-loving peanut gallery in our champagne-filled Live Red Carpet Twitter chat last night all agreed that Jane Krakowski's Lorraine Schwartz earrings, Tina Fey's Lorraine Schwartz ensemble, Halle Berry's diamond bangles and Sofia Vergara's, well, everything were some of the best jewels of the night.

And the worst? According to the JIC ladies, Heidi Klum jumped the shark in an ensemble that was "all project and no runway". Classic.
 

While bigger wasn't better in the bauble department this year - it was de riguer for these bride of Frankenstien-inspired tresses. Yikes.

And Sandra Bullock's bangs deserve their own accessory category called: "unfortunate". Sorry, Sandy.

Early Jewelry Fashion Winners at MTV Movie Awards

Just got through some early pics of the MTV Movie Awards red carpet. Noticing lots of blue gems, including a cool sapphrie snake ring on Ashley Tisdale and a smokin' cocktail ring on Malin Ackerman. But love her or hate her, I gotta hand it to Spencer-sib and Hills pseudo star, Stephanie Pratt. Her diamond swirl statement necklace is working for me. Right?

More to come. Including Miley Cyrus in a dress even Angelina Jolie would yawn at, and old schoolers, Cameron Diaz and Sandra Bullock showing the youngsters how it's done!

Diamonds and Metallics Win Big at American Music Awards

Icy diamond cuffs, dazzling statement earrings, and layered chain necklaces all made a glittering appearance at the American Music Awards last night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles - and the frocks followed suit with a metallic parade of shimmery sequins in gold, silver and bronze.

Taylor Swift is proving to be as big a fashion plate as she is a singing sensation, appearing in an off-the-shoulder silver gown with tasteful diamond drop earrings. The show’s opening act, Christina Aguilera, dazzled in a sequined number reminiscent of old Hollywood, with a diamond cuff as thick as a McEnroe sweatband. Pink and Paris wore their diamonds with golden fabric hues, and Queen Latifah and red carpet host, Carrie Ann Inaba, brought home the bronze.

Competing for several AMA awards, Rhianna and Alicia Keys also battled it out in the “who wore the biggest earrings” category, with the former in thick diamond and gold hoops and the latter in a unique diamond and mother-of-pearl design. Ms. Keys took the look further by adding a traditional Indian accessory, a diamond tikka, which dropped down her forehead in a glittering display.

The AMAs traditionally center around performances, and last night was no exception. The show featured high-energy sets from Miley Cyrus, Ne-Yo and Beyonce, though a pair of lackluster medleys opened the program from Christina Aguilera and the reunited boy band from yesteryear, New Kids on the Block. Yes, folks, they're still hanging tough.

Other highlights included an inspired performance by the Award of Merit winner, Annie Lennox, who brought the crowd to their feet with her stripped down performance of “Why”. And in a pleasant surprise, Pink joined Sarah MacLachlan on stage to harmonize beautifully to her hit “Angel”.

But the biggest shock of the night wasn't when Kanye West called himself the new Elvis, but when the Artist of the Year award went to a stunned Chris Brown.

"I was shocked," the 19-year-old crooner said backstage. "I'm so thankful and grateful. I thought Coldplay should have won the award, but I'll take it."

Rumble in the Jungle at 'Tropic Thunder' Movie Premiere

While the diamonds glittered, protestors put a damper on the red carpet parade show at Ben Stiller’s ‘Tropic Thunder' premiere in LA this week. The satire apparently pokes a little too much fun at folks with disabilities and reps for the Special Olympics and the American Association of People with Disabilities aren’t having it. This, of course, didn’t stop Hollywood’s A list from showing up in droves.

Tom Cruise, who has a cameo in the film as a bald, fat movie financier, brought fashion darling Katie –and they didn’t disappoint. Diamond triangle earrings and multiple diamond rings tastefully complemented Mrs. C’s halter dress and Jimmy Choos. Actress, Christine Taylor, supported her director husband, Ben, by looking lovely in a black sleeveless number and statement drop earrings. And our favorite look was the classic Amy Adams, who dazzled in a dusty gold cocktail dress with gold flower earrings to match. Bravo.

Back to the controversy? The movie is getting solid reviews, and the filmmakers have refused to make concessions claiming, “Some people have taken this as making fun of handicapped people, but we’re really trying to make fun of the actors who use this material as fodder for acclaim.” My two cents? I’m going to see Tom in a fat suit.
