Heidi Klum's Halloween Hangover

Halloween in Hollywood means one thing: Heidi Klum's annual Halloween bash. And while the D-list dared to dress-up in droves this year, I'm still looking for a crazy jewelry juggernaut costume like Paris Hilton's diamond display from last year.

Alas.

Here are some of the photo highlights - including my favorite art-imitating-life-imitating-art entry: the Napster co-Founder, Sean Parker, dressing up like Justin Timberlake. Clever.

Yes. That's Heidi Klum in a Transformer-inspired get up on stilts.

Spotlight on Spooky Jewelry

So you weren't invited to Heidi Klum's famous Halloween party. Again. That doesn't mean you have to throw out the bling with the bathwater!

I'm still working on my Kanye West/diamond teeth costume (Heidi? Your loss, sister.), but I hunted down these fun finds to throw in the spooky style rotation in the meantime:

Gemstones Meet 'The Great Pumpkin':

Add a splash of orange spice to go with your little black dress - like this Great Pumpkin-esque cocktail ring that could work with many a fall ensemble.

Get Back in Black:

Get in touch with your dark side with some sleek onyx jewelry in any incarnation. And one of those Darth Vader voice boxes.

Kitty Cat Couture:

I've had my eye on this cat pendant for a while now. Love the price. Love the chocolate diamonds. Love that it will satisfy my maternal instincts without making too many demands on my personal time.

Skeletal Chic:

You know you have some skull jewelry lying around from your Morrissey-loving goth girl past.  Taylor Momsen didn't invent this wheel!

P.S. Click here for a fun find you can grab if you had Heidi's accessory budget. And the stomach to wear possum bones.

One more week 'til Halloween! Got some costume ideas you'd like to share?  Weigh in!

Halloween Jewelry for Your Inner Goth

Blasphemy! Lechery! Blood! My jewelry box is crying out for a little death and destruction today, so let's get in touch with our inner goth in honor of the year’s creepiest holiday.

If you worshiped The Cure, wore black in honor of Morrissey’s interminable depression, or call The Nightmare Before Christmas your favorite holiday film, you’re already way ahead of the game. For those of you who need a refresher, here is a doom and gloom jewelry primer.

Cross necklaces are the building block of any Goth girl jewelry wardrobe. No, not the dainty little gold cross you might see on your sweet Aunt Linda. We’re talking large, layered, chunky cross necklaces that are definitely NOT a statement about how ‘devout’ you are.

Skulls: According to the experts at FIT,

“The human skull is the type of object once treasured as a memento mori (a reminder of death), later collected as a scientific specimen, and (is) now ubiquitous as an inspiration for gothic accessories.”

Diamond skulls are my favorite skeletal incarnation, but you can find them in an array of precious metal options.

Spikes:
Instrument of death meet jewelry accessory. ‘Nuff said.

Chokers: Necklaces generally fit snug around your neck if you’re a goth princess. Perhaps to protect against your run-of-the-mill vampire or to show off your close relationship to a world without oxygen.

Bats and Spiders:
Bats are big these days what with vampire chic taking a bite out of the fashion world, but you can expand the category to include spiders, webs, and any matter of the creepy and the crawly.

Rubies: Blood is big in the underworld, people, and what other gemstone could possibly represent the vampire elixir better than the ravenous ruby. Find them on a cross pendant or a spiked cuff, and you’ll double down on the all-important death and destruction factor.

So whether your true persuasion is uber-angelic or devilishly devious, Halloween is the perfect night to accessorize like it’s going to be your last. In the meantime, I’m off to dig up my Siouxsie and the Banshees concert T and that pesky white foundation.

Halloween High Fashion

With the make up stains now a permanent fixture on your Joker Nurse costume and your candy collection down to the B list, we thought we'd share our favorite celebrity-bejeweled costume to cure your Halloween hangover.

There were several high profile bashes on both coasts, including Kim Kardashian's L.A. masquerade party and the soiree at the Roosevelt Hotel. But perhaps the hottest ticket was for Heidi Klum's Halloween Party in the big apple- and fittingly her scary Indian goddess costume takes our top prize.

According to US Magazine, Klum got the idea from her assistant.

"My husband [Seal] and I were in India last year, so she said, 'Why don't you do an Indian goddess? Like a scary Indian goddess?' And I said 'OK!'"

"So then she Googled around and she found Kali and showed me a picture, and I loved it," Klum said. "I loved it because she's so mean and killed all these different people and [had] fingers hanging off [her] and little shrunken heads everywhere."

According to Indian tradition, Kali's jewelry consists of earrings made from two dead bodies and a necklace of skulls. We're glad Heidi took a less literal approach - but it's clear the gold fan earrings, elaborate headdress and elbow-length bangles (on all eight of her arms) were meant to look larger than life.

The party took place at 1 Oak in New York City and revelers included the likes of Pink and Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano.
